Awam Gesar Monastery follows the great Padling lineage of Tibetan Buddhism and works under the compassionate guidance of H.E. Khenchen Lama Rinpoche. Rinpoche is the reincarnaion of an important Terton (treasure revealer), Padma Dagnag Lingpa, who was the reincarnation of Nubchen Sangye Yeshe, one of the five main disciples of the great indian master, Guru Padmasambhava, the second buddha. Nubchen Sangye Yeshe was the founder of the Yogi lineage of tibetan buddhism.

In early 2018 H.E. Khenchen Lama Rinpoche had an auspicious dream in which he saw a vision of a wonderful monastery, established in the country of Slovenia, Europe. Rinpoche said that there is the right karma for that and that it will greatly benefit many sentient beings in Europe. Rinpoche is an accomplished Dream Yoga master and his visions are always correct.

Rinpoche has given the monastery the name “Awam Gesar”. Awam means union of wisdom and compassion. Gesar is the name of the victorious enlightened King Gesar of Ling in Tibet and a powerful Dharma protector, a Nirmanakaya emanation of Guru Padmasambhava.

Following his compassionate advice, Rinpoche’s faithful students in Slovenia succesfully registered Awam Gesar Monastery in June 2018 as a Buddhist community at the slovenian government (at the Office for Religious Communities).

Rinpoche very kindly visited Slovenia in April 2018 and compassionately bestowed upon members of Awam Gesar monastery and other attendees many precious empowerments and transmissions of H.H. Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche, his predecessor’s (Padma Dragnag Lingpa’s) and his own termas, spiritual treasures, from this lifetime. Following Rinpoche’s advice, we started organizing weekly group practices and meditations in the capital city.
